Interpreting During a Pandemic: A Conversation on Perspectives

We’re committed to providing educational professionals working with Deaf and hard of hearing students with the necessary resources to ensure students do not fall through the cracks during the coronavirus pandemic.

We’re doing this by providing interactive workshops focused on eLearning and how educators can provide student-centric support.

One of our newest workshops is “Interpreting During a Pandemic: A Conversation on Perspectives.” The workshop description is as follows:

As the coronavirus pandemic has significantly altered instruction in K-12 and higher education settings, Deaf and hard of hearing students are increasingly more vulnerable to falling through the cracks. During this interactive workshop designed for educational interpreters, Corey Axelrod – founder and CEO of 2axend – will provide tangible actions educational interpreters can, and should, take to alter eLearning to meet Deaf and hard of hearing students’ overarching communication needs.

Participants will leave this workshop with:

  • Tips for interpreters to consider in eLearning settings;
  • Strategies to overcome difficult conversations with other educators; and
  • An understanding of potential communication and cultural gaps between students and the educational team.
